What are Hair Transplants?
Hair transplantation is a relatively simple, in office procedure.

The procedure is done under local anesthetic. Patients are given a slight sedative in order to have a relaxing, comfortable experience in our office. Patients are awake during the procedure and have the option of watching television or a movie. While chatting with the assistants, patients are aloud to eat, drink, and even take restroom breaks. The procedure usually lasts anywhere from 5-8 hours depending on the amount of grafts transplanted.

What happens during the procedure?
After numbing the scalp, Dr. Rosanelli takes a strip of hair (usually 7.0 - 12.0 mm wide; length depends on the amount of grafts) from the donor region. This area extends from ear to ear at the lower, back part of the head. The hair follicles in this region are not sensitive to DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and are therefore permanent (common exceptions are Radiation therapy, Chemotherapy, trauma and other exeptions). Hair follicles in balding or thinning areas have receptors that are sensitive to DHT which attacks the hair follicle causing shrinkage and "balding" of the follicle. The permanent hair from the donor region can be transplanted into these areas where the hair was lost. The grafts will heal and grow as if it were still apart of the donor region.

Once removed by the doctor, the strip is then dissected into follicular units usually consisting of 1-4 hairs. Single-hair grafts are placed at precise but varied angles in the hairline to create a soft, natural looking hairline. Grafts with two or three hairs are placed in the front mid-scalp, and crown providing density and volume to cover the larger balding areas. Dr. Rosanelli makes all of the incisions paying particular attention to hair direction (both rotation and elevation) to recreate a natural result for each patient. The grafts heal flat and will begin to grow in 12-14 weeks and the transplanted hair will be 3-5cm in 6 to 8 months.

After the strip is taken from the donor region, the area is then sutured closed. Sutures are removed in the office approximately two weeks following the procedure. If this is impossible, a suture removal kit with instructions is provided. Most patients are left with a thin scar. (hair was shaved to show patient's scar in this photo)

What do they cost?
Cost depends on the number of grafts needed per session. The amount of grafts per session and number of sessions is limited by many factors. Each patient is an individual. Dr. Rosanelli will assess each patient and provide specific recommendations for each individual.

At many so called "Hair Restoration Clinics" you will not be educated by a physician, you may be evaluated by support staff, or another physician (Not the doctor that is planning on doing the surgery). A treatment plan should be done by the hair replacement surgeon only and discussed between the patient and doctor. This is one of the most critical steps in the hair replacement process and unfortunately many "clinics" leave this stage up to others. No matter where you choose to have your surgery, you should ask for the doctor performing your surgery to do your consult, medical exam, and discuss the treatment plan with you.

First, the doctor will assess the donor area for size and density. This may limit the number of procedures and the size of the area we can cover. We must always approach this conservatively so as only to use good hair. Second, we must assess the size of the area to be covered. Also the preferred final density will affect the number of procedures done and therefore the total cost. Finally patients finances are taken into consideration in order to give him or her the best hair replacement that meets their needs

The first 200 grafts is a flat fee of $2,500. Each subsequent graft is $4.00 per graft. Special procedures including eyebrow, mustache, chest, pubic hair, and scar repairs have a base fee of $2500 and $4.00 per graft.

In most cases, Dr. Rosanelli's prices are less than or competitive with any other group.
One physician and a highly trained expert staff of surgical assistants makes for less overhead. You will not receive better work, at any price other groups offer. Many times we have seasonal discounts. We offer special discounts for patients able to take advantage of our "flexible" and "short list" scheduling. If applicable, these discount prices will be discussed during your in-office consultation. Please remember, you will not receive a better transplant at any price.

Any other charges?
There is a one time lab and medication fee of $175.00. Included in this fee is a CBC (complete blood count showing red blood cell, white blood cells and basic components) and an HIV test. This also covers most medications used before and after surgery. (Keflex, Prednisone, Valium, Vicodin, Septra and an antibiotic ointment).

A $1000.00 deposit for your surgical procedure is required. The cost of this will be forfeited if you fail to make your surgical appointment. The deposit will be credited towards your surgery.

Any payment plans?
We offer an interest free payment plan that allows you to divide the total cost of surgery into several payments. The first payment will be paid the day of surgery as well as the remaining payments in the form of post-dated checks and/or credit card slips (Visa, Master Card, Discover Card, and American Express accepted). Your deposit will be only be credited toward your last payment thereby decreasing that payment by $500.
